Staff/faculty volleyball team makes it three in a row.Airborne at the netSun, sand and sportStudent challengersThe annual sand volleyball game, which pits Penn College staff/faculty against students, always brings out the competitive edge in Dan Warner ... and Thursday night was no different. Warner assembled a team comprising himself, Jim Dougherty, Josh Young, Chris Suzadail and Michael Richards. The students jumped out to quick 16-4 lead, according to Jeremy R. Bottorf, intramural assistant, holding on to win the first set, 25-21. Warner and his team weren’t shaken, scoring 15 of the first 20 points. The students – Kyle Burkholder, Delaney Blubaugh, Eric Kamus, Andy Fry and Matthew Strayer – tried for a comeback, scoring on three straight serves by Blubaugh. But the students couldn’t ride the momentum and lost the second set, 25-11.  The third set was a see-saw matchup, with neither team leading by more than three points at any time. In the end, the staff/faculty team prevailed, 15-10, extending its volleyball win streak to three.  Bottorf, who also provided the photos, noted that the semester's Staff/Faculty vs. Students series (which began with the students' 9-1 softball victory on Aug. 21) is now tied at one event each.
