An associate professor at Pennsylvania College of Technology authored a paper, “Transdisciplinary Approaches for Culturally Appropriate Boat Design,” that was published in the Work Based Learning e-Journal International.
Thomas E. Ask’s paper presented findings from research conducted while he was a visiting professor of mechanical engineering at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2009. The study combined technical and nontechnical considerations into the design of a 29-ton Malaysian fishing boat.
Ask, a licensed professional engineer, teaches industrial and human factors design in the School of Integrated Studies and HVAC technology/mechanical refrigeration in the School of Construction and Design Technologies at Penn College.
He holds a doctorate in industrial design from Middlesex University, a Master of Arts in liberal studies from Excelsior College, a graduate management certificate from Cornell University and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois.
