Children’s Learning Center Staff Member Earns Master’s Degree

Leah R. Tressler, a group leader in the Robert and Maureen Dunham Children’s Learning Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently received a master’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania.
Tressler graduated with honors with a Master of Education with a concentration in early childhood education. The focus of her master’s research was “Sensory Play and Its Effects on Toddler Behavior.” She completed the study in her classroom at the Children’s Learning Center.
Tressler has been a group leader in the center – a child care facility on campus that provides early childhood education to children of Penn College students and employees – since 2008.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and is a Pennsylvania-certified teacher in elementary education.
After graduating from Lock Haven in 2004, she substitute taught in local elementary schools and has two years’ experience teaching summer school to young elementary students. She also spent a year as a group leader at a local preschool and day care center.
The Children’s Learning Center at Penn College not only serves children of the college community but also serves as a live learning lab for students in the college’s early childhood education major.
