A Boeing 727-200F aircraft from FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) made its final descent Wednesday onto the runway at the Williamsport Regional Airport. Celebration of this landing and tremendously generous donation to Pennsylvania College of Technology took place at the college's Lumley Aviation Center. A tour of the aircraft followed its arrival.
The aircraft was presented in a formal ceremony after it was flown in and landed at the airport facility in Montoursville. In addition to the FedEx officials, attendees at the event included college, community and airport officials, and Penn College students, faculty and staff.
"As we retire this 727 from our fleet, we are proud to give back to the aviation community," said David Sutton, managing director of Aircraft Acquisition and Sales for FedEx. "The donation of this aircraft by FedEx is just one example of the many ways we support educational endeavors, reflecting the community spirit shared by all FedEx employees in the communities where we live and work."
He noted the "hands-on training value" the large freighter will provide to the college's aviation program students.
Since 2000, FedEx has donated 51 of its Boeing 727 aircraft to various organizations for educational purposes. Before its final flight, aircraft 727-200 REGISTRATION NUMBER N465FE provided FedEx with 20 years' service transporting packages to destinations throughout the United States.
As with other FedEx community service programs, there are numerous success stories resulting from our partnership.

"It will serve as a superb educational resource for students in our aviation majors within the School of Transportation Technology. The complex flight controls, hydraulics, electrical and other systems will enable hands-on learning in areas that could only be simulated previously. This transport-category aircraft will help better prepare our students for productive careers in the commercial aviation industry."
