Do It Yourself With a Little Help From Penn College

You've had all winter to think about the things you'd like to fix around your house, lawn and garden. Pennsylvania College of Technology is ready to help you save money by learning how to take care of some of these chores by doing it yourself.

Noncredit classes offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College can help you tackle home projects ranging from electrical wiring and drywall repair to landscaping and enjoying your garden.

  • Drywall Finishing and RepairLearn to repair drywall, install corner beams, and tape and finish seams. Tuesday and Wednesday, March 27-28, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Cost: $295
  • Advanced Homeowner ElectricityLearn how to tie circuits into the electrical panel, wire photocell-controlled lights and wire time clocks. Selection of proper receptacles for other than general use also is covered. Mondays and Wednesdays, April 16-25, 6-9 p.m. Cost: $249
  • Residential Electricity for HomeownersLearn the methods, materials and regulations needed to complete home wiring projects, residential additions, repairs and GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) circuits. Mondays and Wednesdays, May 14-June 11, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Cost: $299
  • Spring Floral WorkshopLearn how to create spring floral arrangements for your home or office. Spring floral and Dutch grouping designs and techniques are featured. Tuesdays, March 13-27, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost: $105
  • Sustainable Landscaping for the HomeownerLearn about rainwater harvesting, composting, drought-tolerant plants and stormwater-management practices that will make you feel good about the time you spend making your garden pretty. Wednesday, March 21, 6-9 p.m. Cost: $35
  • Landscape Design Using Digital ImagingLearn how to use digital imaging software to help design your landscape. Bring an electronic photo of your home and transform that picture into your perfect landscape. Tuesday, April 10, 6-9 p.m. Cost: $35
  • Creating a Living Succulent WreathDesign and plant an 11-inch wreath with a variety of tender succulent cuttings. Learn the care and propagation of these amazing living works of art that can last for years. Thursday, April 12, or Thursday, April 26, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost: $50
