Penn College Basketball Teams Snap Losing Streaks

Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's basketball team both tasted victory last week while the college's wrestlers saw tournament action in Jamestown, N.Y.

Flashback Men's BasketballIn a game with seven lead changes and five ties, Penn College defeated Penn State Lehigh Valley, 53-50, Monday night. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak. Freshman Scott Fenton, of Dickson City, led all scorers with 23 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. The Wildcats now are 2-15 overall and 2-6 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

Women's Basketball On Wednesday, Bryanna Valentine, of Mifflinburg, scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Penn College lost to Southern Virginia University, 70-39. Turnovers were a problem for the Wildcats as they committed 41 on the night.

Things improved Saturday, however, as Penn College snapped its eight-game losing streak with a 49-43 nonconference win over Pitt-Titusville. Casey Braun, of Hughesville, tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds while Kierstin Steer, of South Williamsport, added 11 points in a win that improves the team's record to 2-15 overall.

Wrestling On Saturday at the Jamestown Community College Jayhawk Open Tournament, sophomore Tyler Myers, of Centre Hall, placed third in the 157 weight class. Nine Wildcats competed with Myers the only place finisher. "We saw some really good competition," head coach Schuyler Frey said. "We wrestled tough and some of our guys were only a move or position away from placing." Myers went 4-1 on the day with two pins.

Earlier in the week, freshman Kyle Sunseri, of Athens, was named both the PSUAC and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week for the week ending Jan. 22. Sunseri went 2-0 at the 141 weight class earning two pins against Penn State Fayette and Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.
