Penn College Provides College and Career Readiness Conference
Friday, December 16, 2011
Pennsylvania College of Technology hosted more than 50 teachers, counselors and secondary-school administrators on its campus Dec. 9 for a College and Career Readiness Conference, providing information that can help the educators guide their students.
A joint effort of the college's Admissions and Outreach for K-12 offices, the twice-yearly events provide opportunities for teachers and guidance counselors to learn more about technology careers and Penn College's programs and to gather in roundtable discussions to connect with one another on current hot topics.
December roundtable topics included "Using Social Networking Sites and the Web to Aid in the College Search Process," "How Educators Can Help Students Navigate the Financial Aid Process," and "Allied Health: An Educator's Guide to Health Occupations," among several others.
The educational hot topic, "Business Tracks in the Industry of Management," featured a panel discussion. Panelists included Paul L. Starkey, vice president for academic affairs and provost; Shelley L. Moore, assistant director of career services; and Kevin L. Imes, an alumnus and project manager at Wohlsen Construction in Hershey. Jeannette F. Carter, director of Outreach for K-12, facilitated the session.
The next College and Career Readiness Conference is scheduled for April 1. The educational hot topic will focus on Marcellus Shale.
This project is funded in part by the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006, under the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Career and Technical Education, and by Penn College.
