Dreese, of Kreamer, has captured the Viewers' Choice award in an art exhibition celebrating the talents of alumni of Pennsylvania College of Technology and its forerunners, Williamsport Area Community College and Williamsport Technical Institute.

"Kaleidoscope: The Alumni Exhibit" was on display at The Gallery at Penn College from Oct. 7 through Nov. 6, with visitors voting for their favorite piece until the exhibit's closing.

"Winter Mirror" and other photographs by Dreese are on display in the lobby at the gallery through Dec. 11.

As the winner of the Viewers' Choice honor, Dreese, '84, forest technology, received a gift certificate to Le Jeune Chef Restaurant, a fine-dining facility on the college campus.

Dreese works as a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier in Lewisburg and devotes his personal time to nature photography. Many of his images are used by the Susquehanna Valley Visitors' Bureau. He has also written six books on the Civil War; his books were the topic of a feature article in the Summer 2003 issue of the Penn College magazine, One College Avenue.

Dreese noted that he deeply appreciates central Pennsylvania's diverse seasons, but he has a favorite season for his art.

"Winter is my favorite season to photograph because of the stillness and quiet and absence of distractions," he said. "Photos become more about the forms and structures. I seem to be able to concentrate more and see better in winter."

Other alumni winners, previously announced at the opening of "Kaleidoscope: The Alumni Exhibit," are: Larry Erb, '70, graphic art, of Alto, Ga., first place; Rick Karp, '82, computer information systems, of Williamsport, second place; and Cindy Warner English, '86, technical illustration, of Montoursville, third place.
