Penn College Teams Take First, Third in Radiography Contest
Wednesday, November 9, 2011
Two teams from Pennsylvania College of Technology placed in the top three recently during a competition against students from seven other hospital and college radiography education programs.
Fifteen students volunteered to represent the Penn College Radiography Program's Class of 2012 in a "Technibowl" a quiz competition held at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and hosted by the Penn State Hershey Radiography Club. The event showcased the students' curricular knowledge in radiation protection, physics, anatomy and physiology, radiographic exposure and positioning, and clinical and digital imaging.
Seven Penn College teams competed against more than 30 other student teams representing Geisinger, Harrisburg Area Community College, Holy Spirit Hospital, Misericordia University, Northampton Community College, Penn State Hershey, and Reading Hospital and Medical Center. The Penn College teams placed first and third in the competition.
"Taking first and third place is quite remarkable, given the fact the Penn College students have nine months of study remaining in their program, while others that competed are at the end of their studies and ready to graduate within two months," said Robert J. Slothus, radiography program director and an associate professor at Penn College.
First-place winners were Dennis L. Fetters Jr., of Bellefonte, and Jason A. McWilliams, of Lock Haven. Third-place winners were Blair M. Cillo, of Williamsport and Sierra L. Petro, of Pottstown.
The remaining team members were Forrest D. Bechdel, of Howard; Kristin E. Bouch, of Brockway; Stephanie J. Brouse, of Middleburg; Carrie R. Eichenlaub, of Neelyton; Chelsea F. Karschner, of Montoursville; Natalie J. Keebaugh, of Crystal Spring; Eric D. Kennedy, of Lewistown; Brandy L. Krause, of Pine Grove; Rachel R. Krick, of Bernville; Melanie A. Roof, of Towanda; and Jennifer R. Vollman, of Cogan Station.
