The United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced its end-of-year All-American and All-Academic Team award-winners at the 2011 men's and women's soccer national championships this past weekend.Ten members of the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's soccer team made the cut.
All-Americans are determined by the USCAA based on athletic performance throughout the season. In men's soccer, sophomore forward Chris Brennan (New Hope) and senior midfielder William DeAngelo (Dallas) were honorable mentions. Brennan led the team in scoring with 14 goals and totaled 31 points. DeAngelo had six goals and four assists in his final year for the Wildcats. This is Brennan's second time being named an honorable mention while it is DeAngelo's first.
In women's soccer, junior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) was an honorable mention. In the midfield, she had three goals and eight assists. She was named an All-American in both her freshman and sophomore seasons.
All-Academic Team members must have a cumulativeGPA of 3.5 or higher. For men's soccer, DeAngelo, along with juniors Isaac Hostetter (Lebanon) and Ben Shade (Fleetwood) and sophomore David Munn (Athens), earned spots. In women's soccer, senior Brandy Krause (Pine Grove) and freshmen Lauren Hammer (Center Valley) and Kerry Weber (Saylorsburg) were named to the team.
The men's soccer team earned a bid to the tournament and finished in the top six. Freshman Sterling Weikel (Dewart) was named to the all-tournament team. He scored the game winner against No. 6 Southern Maine.
