Timber Management Subject of Nov. 15 Library Forum at College
Wednesday, November 2, 2011
The role of timber management in maintaining Penn's Woods will be discussed by Eric C. Easton, a forestry instructor at Pennsylvania College of Technology, during the Fall 2011 Madigan Library Forum.
The free public forum, "Timber Now and Then: The History of Timber Management in Pennsylvania," will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the library's second-floor reading loft. Light refreshments will be served.
"Historically, Pennsylvania has harvested timber for the production of lumber, bark for tanneries, and charcoal production; but today, our management views have changed to include aesthetics, wildlife, recreation and conservation in addition to fiber production," Easton said. "If you hike, bike, fish, hunt, kayak or spend time in the outdoors, you will agree that timber management is important for preserving our beautiful wooded surroundings."
A faculty member since Fall 2009, Easton holds a master's degree in forest management from SUNY/College of Environmental Science and Forestry, a Bachelor of Science degree in education (biology) from Millersville University and an associate degree in forest technology from Penn College.
