For the third consecutive year, Pennsylvania College of Technology has been designated a Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs, a magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life.
According to G.I. Jobs, the 2012 Military Friendly Schools list honors "the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members and veterans as students."
"Penn College continues to be a place that students who have served in the military choose to further their education," said Dennis L. Correll, associate dean for admissions and financial aid. "For Fall 2011, we will have 328 veteran students receiving educational benefits from the Post-9/11 GI Bill thorough our Financial Aid Office. This represents a 4-percent increase from Fall 2010."
Correll said a number of students were recently called to active duty and unable to enroll for the Fall 2011 semester, keeping the increase from matching last year's growth, but student veterans continue to choose Penn College.
"Each year of enrollment growth from the military clearly illustrates to those interested in a hands-on education that Penn College is the right choice for them," he said, "and we are ready to help them make the most of their educational benefits."
The 1,518 colleges, universities and trade schools on the 2012 Military Friendly Schools list prioritize the recruitment of students with military experience by offering scholarships and discounts, veterans' clubs, full-time staff, military credit, and similar services.
The list was compiled through research and a survey of more than 8,000 schools nationwide. Methodology, criteria and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board consisting of educators from schools across the country.
"The Military Friendly Schools list is the go-to resource for prospective student veterans searching for schools that provide the right overall experience," said Michael Dakduk, executive director for the student veterans of America. "Nothing is more compelling than actual feedback from current student veterans."
For 2012, G.I. Jobs incorporated a survey of student veterans for the first time. The feedback provides prospective military students with insight into the student veteran experience at a particular institution based on peer reviews. Survey feedback is available online .
G.I. Jobs is published by Victory Media, a veteran-owned business that also publishes The Guide to Military Friendly Schools, Military Spouse and Vetrepreneur magazines and annually rates the nation's Military Friendly Employers, Military Spouse Friendly Employers and Best Corporations for Veteran-Owned Businesses.
