Joseph S. Yoder has been named public information director at Pennsylvania College of Technology, effective July 1.
Yoder oversees media relations and all news and public information sharing at Penn College, including print and online publishing of the college magazine/annual report and the daily publishing of news on the PCToday website.
He leads a team of writers, editors, photographers and videographers who research and develop news and information for the public in a variety of media. He also advises the president and senior administration on matters involving media relations, including crisis communications.
"Joe brings integrity, professionalism and a wealth of experience to this position," said Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour. "I have every confidence that he will serve the institution very well in this expanded role."
Yoder served as news bureau manager for the college since 2004. He began his employment with Penn College in 1999 as a print media specialist, later becoming public information officer.
From 1993-99, he was a staff writer for the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, covering politics, health, higher education and the courts. Previously, he worked for the former Record Newspapers Inc., Coatesville, as a staff writer with the Daily Record (which later merged with the Daily Local News, West Chester) and as editor of the Times Record, Kennett Square.
He graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in English and a concentration in journalism from Millersville University, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Tau Delta honor societies.
Yoder serves on the board of directors and is publicity chair for the Lycoming Audubon Society. His professional memberships include CUPRAP-The Association of Communicators in Education and CASE (The Council for Advancement and Support of Education).
