Monday, July 25, 2011

Katie BellThe innovation and market development consultant for IMC recently presented "Greenovation: A Unique Approach Encouraging Green Product Development" to a national audience in Florida.

In a presentation at the Manufacturing Innovations conference in Orlando, Katie Bell discussed the role of Greenovation contests in encouraging green-product development across the United States through Manufacturing Extension Partnership Centers and other organizations and companies.

Bell introduced the subject at the 2010 conference, and was invited back to discuss the rapid growth of the local Greenovation program in the meantime.

"We are much further along than last year," she explained. "We've created a national website and developed a starter kit for centers, organizations and small businesses interested in promoting sustainability."

Additionally since last year's conference, Texas and Alabama joined the Greenovation movement, which includes competitions offering prizes of services and cash to encourage companies and individuals to develop environmentally friendly products.

Besides Bell's years with IMC, her entrepreneurial insight is born of a degree in business from Lycoming College and experience as a small-business owner in downtown Williamsport.

IMC, one of Pennsylvania's seven Industrial Resource Centers, is based at Pennsylvania College of Technology's Center for Business & Workforce Development in Williamsport.
