Graduation ceremonies were held May 20 for those completing the medical (office) assistant program at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro.
Ten individuals completed the nine-month training program, preparing them for employment in medical offices, labs, clinics and human-service agencies.
The students chose their instructors as speakers for the event, including Linda D. Cheyney, Debra A. Day, John A. Delaney, George Ann Foreman, Susan C. Nowak and Julie A. Stager. They chose classmate Sue Copp to offer remarks about their experiences as students.
Certificates were presented by Brenda G. Abplanalp, director of North Campus outreach services, and Nowak presented medical assistant pins to each graduate. A reception for family and friends was held in the North Campus lounge following the graduation ceremony.
The medical assistant students completed 800 hours of classroom instruction followed by a 160-hour externship in physicians' offices in the northern tier of Pennsylvania and southern tier of New York.
At the completion of all requirements, students were eligible to take the American Medical Technologists exam for certification as a Registered Medical Assistant and the National Healthcareer Association's Phlebotomy Technician Certification exam.
Carol Bell received the North Campus Achievement Award for academic excellence.

The next scheduled medical assistant program will begin in September. An information session will be held at 9 a.m. on July 26 for anyone interested in enrolling in the program.
