First Year Institute Holds Full Day of Student-Centered Professional Development
Saturday, May 21, 2011
About 50 faculty and staff representing all of Penn College's eight academic schools and a number of campus departments took part in Saturday's inaugural event of the First Year Institute: a daylong program of professional development sessions geared toward teaching of first-year students. From financial aid and study skills to classroom management and library usage, topics helped college employees prepare for the questions that are inevitable during students' transitioning experience. Brian C. Johnson, a Bloomsburg University faculty member and ordained minister, was the keynote speaker; session leaders included Robert M. Sherfield, author of the "Cornerstone" textbook used in Penn College First Year Experience class.
