Store's New Online Service Lets Students Compare Textbook Prices

Thursday, April 14, 2011

A new textbook price-comparison service is available online through The College Store at Pennsylvania College of Technology, one of only 40 institutions nationwide to provide such a program.

Students now will be able to compare The College Store's textbook prices with those offered through Amazon and Half.com, then make purchases from the chosen vendor. When accessing their class schedules through the secure Student Information System, students will be able to view all of their course-book information with a single click on the "Buy Textbook" link.

The College Store's goal in offering the free service a transparent comparison of available textbooks and a one-stop process for purchasing them is to make it easier for students to search the marketplace and save money on their textbook needs.

The store works to keep prices as low as possible, but understands that some sellers may offer a lower price. Its purpose is to give students all the information necessary to make educated decisions, as well as to provide them direct access to purchase textbooks.

Store director Matthew P. Branca, noted, however, that there are several advantages to buying textbooks from The College Store:

  • One-stop shopping Students are able to find all of their course materials in one location.
  • Guaranteed purchase The College Store guarantees that purchases are clean, complete and correct. If the instructor changes the required textbook after you make your purchase, a full refund will be offered for titles bought on campus as long as a record of your purchase from The College Store is available.
  • Free in-store pickup Students can order their titles from The College Store and choose to pick up their purchases in the store at no additional charge. Students also can opt to have their College Store purchases shipped for a flat $9.95-per-order charge.

The store encourages students to take advantage of this new price-comparison service, which is available at no cost by simply clicking on the "Buy Textbooks" link on The College Store's website or at the bottom of the SIS' online class schedule.
