Modular Housing Training Institute Part of National Certification Effort

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

The Modular Housing Training Institute, part of the Factory Built Housing Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been selected by the Modular Certification Corp. as the preferred educational partner for its modular builder national certification requirement process.

As part of this effort, MHTI staff will deliver a two-day course covering four critical elements leading to successful modular construction: site and foundation preparation, setting the modules, project management through optimal scheduling, and on-site project completion.

MHTI also has committed to developing and delivering more advanced course work to MCC-certified builders as part of the new partnership.

"This is an excellent opportunity for the Factory Built Housing Center to continue to support the industry, and it's a statement of its reputation as a one-of-a-kind resource center," said Frederick G. Terry, director of factory built housing programs at Penn College. "We have been fortunate to have strong industry leadership in Pennsylvania that supports the activities and missions of the FBHC and the Factory Built Housing Partnership, sponsored by the state Department of Labor and Industry and the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corp. We are pleased and honored to have the opportunity to work with the MCC, and the modular industry, in its goal of establishing a nationally recognized certification."

Since 1999, MHTI has trained more than 1,200 builders, contractors and developers on a national level and is nationally recognized as a leader in education, training and research specifically targeting the building systems industry.
