Dina L. Wilson, associate professor of nursing programs at Pennsylvania College of Technology, passed the National League for Nursing Certification Exam for Certified Nurse Educator in December.
The CNE is deemed a mark of professionalism by the National League for Nursing. For academic nurse educators, it establishes nursing education as a specialty area of practice and creates a means for faculty to demonstrate their expertise in this role.
Wilson has been a faculty member for three years at Penn College, where she teaches courses in all three of the college's nursing tracks: the practical nursing certificate, the nursing associate degree, and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
She is the college's associate degree nurse facilitator, which encompasses conducting meetings, mentoring and evaluating part-time clinical faculty and being a liaison between Assessment Technologies Institute, a test-preparation company, and Penn College.
Wilson graduated from the Williamsport School of Nursing and holds Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Nursing degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. She has taught nursing for 35 years, with teaching experience at the University of Kansas, Avila College in Kansas City, Mo., and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan., before joining the faculty at Penn College. She has also served as a staff nurse, head nurse, supervisor and clinical nurse specialist in Cardiovascular Nursing at Presbyterian University Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital, both in Pittsburgh, and at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
Wilson was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, in 2003, teaching as a link lecturer.
She has traveled to England and Holland for week-long conferences in nursing and nursing education to study the health care systems in those countries in comparison to the United States' health care system.
She has published papers in major nursing journals and written items for the state board of nursing RN licensure exam. She has written many test items for New York Regents' nursing program and ATI. She also revised a chapter on cardiovascular nursing in a major nursing textbook.
