Sociology Instructor Presents at Conference

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Richard SahnPennsylvania College of Technology faculty member Richard Sahn recently presented a paper at the annual meeting of the Association for Humanist Sociology.

Sahn, an instructor of sociology, presented his paper titled "Confessions of a Former Social Welfare Worker," which details lessons he gathered from his experiences on Nov. 4 in Santa Fe, N.M.

In the paper, Sahn asserts there was very little cheating among welfare clients in New York City, and that welfare should be considered a right rather than a privilege because of the economic desperation of so many disenfranchised people in the United States.

Founded in 1976, the Association for Humanist Sociology is a community of sociologists, educators, scholars and activists who share a commitment to using sociology to promote peace, equality and social justice.

Sahn holds a doctorate in sociology. He teaches in the School of Integrated Studies at Penn College.
