Returning to action after a near-monthlong semester break, Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's basketball teams went 1-3 last week, each losing to an NCAA Division III opponent and splitting in their return to Penn State University Athletic Conference play.
Men
In a high-scoring home game Wednesday against DIII Misericordia University, the Wildcats rallied from an 18-point deficit to pull within two in the last minute, before losing by six, 93-87. Greg Solyak (Lititz) scored a personal season-high 30 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Leroy Joiner (Williamsport) scored 20 points and had 10 caroms. Graduated Joe Simon is the leader with 1,425 and Solyak has 1,282. On the bright side, Penn College outrebounded the Cougars, 37-35, and hit seven of eight foul shots (87.5 percent), after averaging in the low 50-percent range most of the season. The Wildcats outscored Misericordia from the field, 34-32 in total field goals, but the visitors hit 21 of 29 free throws; going to the foul line numerous times as a result of Penn College's aggressive defense.

Joiner led the Wildcats offense with 25 points and increased his career total to 1,235, while Solyak chipped in with 17 points and now has 1,299 for his career.
