Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's basketball teams were perfect last week, each winning both of its games as Penn State University Athletic Conference play began.
FLASHBACK Men's Basketball On Wednesday, the Wildcats built a 37-18 halftime lead and went on for an 80-65 win over Penn State Hazleton. Greg Solyak (Lititz) scored 23 points to pace the offense, while Leroy Joiner (Williamsport) notched 21 points and 13 rebounds and Bryant House (Columbia Crossroads) added 13 points the first time this season he has scored in double figures.
On Saturday, Joiner hit two foul shots with four seconds remaining to lift Penn College past Penn State Mont Alto, 76-74. Joiner finished the game with 20 points and 14 rebounds as the team improved to 2-0 in the conference and 3-4 overall. Phil Kaylor (Lebanon) and Nico Italiani (Easton) each added 15 points. A junior guard, Joiner was named a United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Co-Player of the Week for his effort in a Nov. 22 win over Alfred (N.Y.) University that included 22 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and five steals..
Women's Basketball Penn College got off to a good start in its conference opener Wednesday as it topped Penn State Hazleton, 60-46. Kristen Steer (South Williamsport) scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the way. Tosha Stover (Bellefonte) added 10 points.
At Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday, the Wildcats raced to a 52-12 halftime lead en route to a 99-25 victory that improved the team's overall record to 4-3 entering the semester break. Steer finished with a game-high 20 points while Casey Braun (Hughesville) added 17, Katherine Lisi (Montoursville) had 13 and Keisha Cooksey (Harrisburg) scored 11.
Coed Tennis Rob Kemrer (Milton) and Danielle Trout (Harrisburg) were named to the PSUAC All-Conference team. Kemrer, at No. 4 men's singles, and Trout, at No. 2 women's singles, won individual conference titles and Trout teamed with Rachel Emmons (Washington, N.J.) for the No. 1 women's doubles championship that lifted the Wildcats to their third straight conference team crown.
ON THE HORIZONThe men's basketball team closes out the fall semester with a 3 p.m. game at NCAA Division II Clarion University on Saturday.
