Penn College Website Again Honored for Excellence

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Pennsylvania College of Technology's website was honored for the second time this fall with a major industry award.

This time, the recognition came from the International Academy of Visual Arts, which selected the college's website as a Silver Award winner in the School/University category of its W3 Awards competition.

The academy is an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from a "Who's Who" of acclaimed media, interactive, advertising and marketing firms. IAVA members include executives from organizations such as Conde Nast, Coach, Disney, HBO, Monster.com, MTV, Wired, Yahoo! and others.

The W3 Awards competition also is sponsored by Internet Week New York (presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and the Mayor's Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting), which salutes the thriving Internet industry and the companies, organizations and innovators creating the future of online media.

The competition is open to large and small agencies and organizations. It awards excellence in websites, as well as online marketing, video and mobile applications. Websites are judged on creativity, usability, navigation, functionality, visual design and ease of use.

Last month, the Penn College website achieved University Standard of Excellence recognition in the Web Marketing Association's WebAward 2010 competition.

Leadership in the design and maintenance of the website is provided by Penn College employees in the College Information & Community Relations Office: Judy A. Fink, manager of Web design; and Web designers Shawn P. McGehean, Carlos Ramos, Michael Richards and Phillip C. Warner. Other staff provide copywriting, editing, photography and video for the site.

"To be honored by industry leaders not once, but twice, in a matter of months is really an important achievement," said Elaine J. Lambert, director of college information and community relations. "As a college focused on applied technology, it is important that our online resources measure up to industry standards. These recent honors are evidence that we are achieving our goals."
