Foundation Dinner Auction Establishes Fundraising Record
Wednesday, October 20, 2010
The Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation's recent dinner auction set a new record for funds raised at the biennial event.
Robb C. Dietrich, executive director of the Penn College Foundation, said more than $58,000 was raised at the event. He said the total was about $4,000 more than the amount raised at the last dinner auction in 2008.
"The auction is highlighted by a number of items handcrafted by Penn College students, faculty, staff and alumni," Dietrich said, "as well as items featuring the college's School of Hospitality and its Le Jeune Chef Restaurant, vacation packages and other auction items donated by friends of the college."
Dietrich noted that local auctioneer Ron Roan donated his services for the Oct. 1 event. He also thanked the Penn College Student Ambassadors who assisted with the auction, and the members of the Penn College Foundation Board of Directors who served on the dinner auction committee: Karen Blaschak, Jim Cunningham, Daria Fish, Pat Marty, Ann Marie Phillips, Linda Schultz, Michael Vuocolo and John Young.
The Penn College Foundation was established as the Williamsport Area Community College Foundation in 1981. The foundation engages in a variety of activities to provide financial support for Penn College and its mission, including, but not limited to, providing student scholarships and other financial assistance, soliciting and acquiring financial donations, and assisting in the general promotion of the college. The foundation executive director is a member of the college's Institutional Advancement staff.
Proceeds from the dinner auction support Penn College Foundation scholarship awards. The foundation provided more than $250,000 in direct scholarship aid to Penn College students in 2009-10.
Penn College is a special mission affiliate of The Pennsylvania State University, committed to applied technology education. With more than 6,400 students enrolled in bachelor-degree, associate-degree and certificate majors, Penn College has the second-largest enrollment in the Penn State system.
