'Passport' to Be Issued for Prospective Accounting Students

A "Passport to Opportunity" for high school students potentially interested in the accounting profession will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in Pennsylvania College of Technology's Bush Campus Center.

The event, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and hosted by the college's School of Business and Computer Technologies, is a free program to expose students to careers in accounting and to educate them about the advantages of the CPA designation.

The day will include a short video highlighting the different career paths of CPAs, presentations by local professionals, lunch, a financial-literacy presentation, an admissions information session and a campus tour. In addition, the school will provide a panel of current accounting students for a question-and-answer session with participants.

"This program is a great opportunity for students to interact with accounting professionals and college accounting majors regarding the accounting profession: opportunities, compensation levels, duties, preparation, education requirements, etc.," said Phillip D. Landers, professor of business administration/management at Penn College.

There is no cost, but interested participants must sign up by Oct. 22. Registration information is available through the institute's website . PICPA is an association of more than 19,000 certified public accountants working to improve the profession and better serve the public interest.
