College Presents Outstanding Varsity Athletic Alumni Awards

During the recent Homecoming 2010 activities, Pennsylvania College of Technology presented Outstanding Varsity Athletic Alumni Awards to Amber L. Dreese, of Williamsport, and Matthew R. Haile, of Sunbury.

Dreese graduated in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in applied human services. She is employed by the Lycoming-Clinton Joinder Board as a supports coordinator, working with clients with developmental disabilities. Previously, she was a program specialist in the Vocational Rehabilitation Workshop through Hope Enterprises Inc. She serves as an assistant coach with Penn College's women's volleyball team.

Haile graduated in 2006 with bachelor's and associate degrees in computer information systems: networking and technical support and computer information technology: data communications and networking. He is employed as a network specialist at Penn College and is the head coach for the college's golf team.

To be eligible for the award, a recipient must have been a varsity athlete for two or more years, demonstrate the importance of his or her education at Penn College, participate in leadership roles and demonstrate a commitment to the community in which he or she resides, and be a graduate of the college or its immediate predecessor institution, Williamsport Area Community College.

Dreese was captain of the women's volleyball team all four years that she played at Penn College. Awards she received included Most Valuable Player (2002), Most Inspirational (2003-05) and Most Dedicated (2002-03). She earned all-academic honors in 2004-05.

In addition to serving as assistant women's volleyball coach, Dreese has volunteered at Penn College as an assistant coach of the men's volleyball team. She also coordinates the efforts of the women's volleyball team during the off season and motivates the players in their capacity as a team competing in the YMCA volleyball league.

Haile played golf at Penn College for four years. He placed second in the 2002 Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association championship and won the conference's individual crown in 2003 as a member of the team that began a remarkable string of 155 consecutive victories. He was the Penn State University Athletic Conference individual runner-up in 2005 when the team won its third straight conference title.

Before becoming Penn College's head golf coach in 2009, Haile served for two years as a volunteer coach.
