Tie-Dye Party Held in Advance of Saturday's 'Pink Out' for Cancer Awareness

The Wildcat women's volleyball team thanks everyone who came to its Pink-Out Tie-Dye event Monday night. With the help of Field House staff (including Angel V. Stroud, Lisa J. Worth and Jeremy R. Bottorf), and equipment supplied by Penn College General Services, the rear storage area of the building was transformed into a tie-dye party. The team would have a hard time not counting the event a success; its members assisted a steady flow of people to create masterpieces in pink. Every open surface became a holding rack for T-shirts anticipated to be worn in an attempt to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Fortunately, rainy skies were no hindrance, as shirts were taken outside to be rinsed before rubber bands were removed to reveal yet another unique design. The event lasted beyond the expected end time of 8 p.m., as several of the fall sports teams, one sorority, a variety of curious college students and friends of the volleyball players came to show their support. Additionally, teams that will be traveling and unable to attend the Pink-Out event in Bardo Gym were encouraged to wear their shirts later this week to let others know there is "something pink" happening, said coach Bambi A. Hawkins, who looks forward to a successful Pink-Out at the matches to be hosted by the women's volleyball team starting at 1 p.m. Saturday. There also will be a 50-50 drawing to benefit the American Cancer Society and the first 100 people through the door will receive a free awareness bracelet and reminder card. Photos by Jeremy R.
