KYDEX, LLC recently became a Gold Charter Member of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Thermoforming Center of Excellence.
With production, research and development, and corporate offices located in Bloomsburg, KYDEX is a worldwide leader in producing specialty thermoplastic sheets. The specialty thermoplastic sheets are used in thermoforming processes to make high quality components used in aircraft interiors, medical equipment, store displays and furniture components, among many others.
As a Gold Charter Member of the Thermoforming Center of Excellence, KYDEX contributed $10,000 to support the establishment of the national center, which officially opened in April.
The Thermoforming Center of Excellence at Penn College is an 1,800-square-foot facility dedicated to serve the education, training, and research and development needs of thermoformers, sheet extruders, resin suppliers, mold builders and equipment manufacturers. The facility is used by both the plastics and polymer degree program at the college one of five ABET-accredited plastics education programs in North America and by industry clients via the college's Plastics Manufacturing Center.
"As a strong supporter of the thermoforming industry, we felt that it is important to support the premier thermoforming-based undergraduate educational facility in the U.S. We hope that our support and that of other corporations will help train and educate future leaders in the thermoforming industry," said Jim Medalie, president of KYDEX.
Members of the Thermoforming Center of Excellence have access to the center's research, to technical support from Penn College faculty and staff, and to Penn College plastics processing and testing labs. Their contributions are applied toward projects and services at the center, and they are featured in the Plastics Manufacturing Center's quarterly newsletter.
The Plastics Manufacturing Center is one of the top plastics-technology centers in the country. It offers industry access to extensive material-testing laboratories, industrial-scale process equipment, world-class training facilities and highly skilled consulting staff.
