Wildcats Get Heavy Dose of Crosstown Warriors

Twice last week, Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports teams stepped into the arena against NCAA Division III crosstown rival Lycoming College and lost. The women's volleyball team forced the Warriors to five games before falling, 3-2, while the women's soccer team was shut out, 11-0.

FLASHBACK GolfIn their second outing of the season, Penn College golfers finished second in a six-team field. Penn State Mont Alto led the way with 316, the Wildcats scored 356, host Penn State Fayette was third at 362, Penn State New Kensington fourth at 363, Penn State Shenango fifth at 383 and Penn State Greater Allegheny last at 406. Eric Schall (Jersey Shore) led Penn College individuals with an 87, Alex Howe (Lake Ariel) shot 88 and Joe Peters (Harrisburg) 89. Overall, Penn College now is 8-1. Team Tennis Penn College opened its season Saturday, suffering a 6-3 loss at Penn State Brandywine. All three points for the Wildcats came from women members of the team. Rachel Emmons (Washington, N.J.) won in singles, while Danni Trout (Harrisburg) won by forfeit in singles and she and Emmons won by forfeit in women's doubles. "They (Brandywine) were really strong. It was quite a surprise," coach Aimee Plastow said.Men's SoccerThe Wildcats evened their overall record at 1-1 with a 3-1 win at Davis College on Wednesday. Tristan Smith (Bermuda) scored two goals and Nick Grasso (New Columbia) added the other. On Saturday, Penn College improved to 2-1 with a 6-0 win over Penn State Scranton. Pat Massango (Harrisburg) scored two goals, while William DeAngelo (Dallas) Joe Rumsey (Langhorne) each had a goal and an assist.Women's Soccer The Wildcats' season record was leveled at 1-1 Saturday with its loss to Lycoming in the first Battle for the Lumber.Women's VolleyballTaking on crosstown rival Lycoming College in its only match of the week, the Wildcats put up a spirited battle before losing in five games, 26-24, 13-25, 26-24, 23-25, 8-15. Statistically for Penn College, Lindsay Moyer (Canton) had 13 kills, Lyndsey Smith (Mechanicsburg) 31 assists, Ashley Matson-Donahay (Troy) 12 digs and six aces, Paula Monteiro (Brazil) 15 digs and four kills and Tara Powell (Burgettstown) nine kills and 13 digs.
