Professor Presents Paper at Conference for Economists

Abdul B. PathanAbdul B. Pathan, professor of economics at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently presented a paper at the Pennsylvania Economic Association annual conference.

Pathan's paper, titled "Successful Teaching of Economics Principles to Beginning Students," discussed strategies for preparing lectures and for keeping students motivated throughout the lecture.

Pathan also served as a discussant for a student session on economic development, while Gerald "Chip" Baumgardner, associate professor of business administration/management, served as chair and discussant for a session on public economics. The conference was held June 3-5 at Grove City College.

The Pennsylvania Economic Association is a professional association of economists and allied social scientists in Pennsylvania and neighboring states. Approximately 70 papers are presented and discussed at its annual conference, which attracts economists not only from Pennsylvania and the surrounding states, but also from other countries.

Baumgardner is 2009-10 president of the association's executive board. Pathan is a member of the board of directors.

Pathan holds a doctorate from the University of Houston and master's degrees from Williams College in Massachusetts and Dhaka University in Bangladesh.

Baumgardner holds a doctorate from George Mason University, master's degrees from The Pennsylvania State University and Shippensburg University, and a bachelor's degree from Penn State.
