Computer Science Professor Presents Technical Paper at Workshop
Thursday, January 28, 2010
A professor of computer science in Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Business and Computer Technologies presented a technical paper at a Cybersecurity and Intelligence Workshop conducted by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.
Asesh K. Das' paper, "Information Intelligence in Cloud Computing How Can Vijjana, a Collaborative, Self-Organizing, Domain Centric Knowledge Network Model, Help," was coauthored with Ramana Reddy, of West Virginia University, a pioneer knowledge-based simulation scientist, and two of his artificial-intelligence team members.
The work was done when Das was on sabbatical during the Spring 2009 semester and worked with Reddy's team, which developed the Vijjana model. Das works with the team as an adjunct faculty member in WVU's Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering; more than 10 universities in China also have become involved in the software project.
Vijjana which means "classified knowledge" in the Sanskrit language employs artificial-intelligence techniques to connect Internet users seeking to access knowledge of specific interest to them. Das' paper explores how computer programs can replicate human beings' intelligent reasoning to accurately provide the integral information sought by those Web users.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a science and technology facility managed for the U.S. Department of Energy by UT-Battelle LLC. Nearly every country in the world regularly participates in ORNL research programs.
A member of the Penn College faculty since 1994, Das holds a doctorate from Visva-Bharati University, earned master's degrees from North Bengal University and Florida Institute of Technology, and has a bachelor's degree from Calcutta University.
