Monday, in an 84-70 home win over Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Joe Simon (Renovo) scored 21 points and became the college men's team all-time leading career scorer with 1,197 points. The mark eclipsed the record of 1,196 set last year by Craig Flint, of Port Allegany. Also in that game, Leroy Joiner (Williamsport) scored 23 points and had 13 rebounds.

Simon scored 20 points in an 86-75 loss at Penn State York on Wednesday.

At home Friday, Greg Solyak (Lancaster) scored 24 points and Joiner 21 in an 86-72 win over Penn State Fayette.

Again at home on Saturday against Penn State Mont Alto, Simon was honored for breaking the men's college career scoring record and the Wildcats went on for a 98-80 win with Joiner scoring 22 points and grabbing 17 rebounds.

During the week, it was announced that Joiner, a sophomore guard, had been named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Player of the Week for Jan. 10-17. In two victories, Joiner averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

In PSUAC-North Division play, the Wildcats hold a half-game lead over Penn State Wilkes-Barre. In the Week 7 USCAA Coaches' Poll, Penn College is ranked No. 9 among Division II colleges.

Women's Basketball
The Wildcats opened the week Monday with a 69-55 win at home over Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) led the way with 18 points and Lindsay Wiegand (Watsontown) added 17 points.

In a 51-47 win Wednesday at Penn State York, Casey Braun (Hughesville) erupted for 19 points and Steer added 11 points and had 13 rebounds.

A five-game win steak was snapped at home Friday by previously winless Penn State Fayette, 72-71, on a last-second, 3-point goal. Jess Hohman (South Williamsport) scored 18 points in the loss.

At home Saturday against Penn State Mont Alto, Penn College had a big second half and won 62-43 with Steer and Wiegand each scoring 15 points.

In PSUAC-North Division action, the Wildcats lead Penn State Wilkes-Barre by 1 1/2-games.
