North Campus Practical Nursing Program Honors Graduates

Twenty-five students graduated recently from the Practical Nursing Program at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro.
The distinguished speakers for the Dec. 17 ceremony, chosen by students, were Olivia Mays, a registered nurse/staff nurse at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, and Helene Nawrocki, executive director of the Potter County Education Council.
Larry L. Michael, executive director of workforce and economic development at Penn College, provided remarks from the main campus in Williamsport. A holiday reception for family and friends was held afterward in the North Campus lounge.
The Lyle Goodreau Award for professionalism and excellence in the nursing clinical area was presented to Jennifer Woodworth, Allenwood, by Janie Hilfiger, chief nurse executive at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. The Green Home Award for excellence in geriatric care was presented to Alicia Rice, Middlebury, by Jacqueline Werts, director of nursing at the Green Home, Wellsboro.
The Charles Cole Memorial Hospital Award for excellence in the nursing clinical area was presented to Joseph Hepfner, Port Allegany, by Netra Baker, director of staff development and professional enrichment at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport. The Sweden Valley Manor Award for professional growth was presented to Janice Knight, Laurelton, by Stephanie Dubots, a registered nurse representing Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
Theresa Brown, Westfield; Elizabeth Grossman, Roulette; and Samantha Shaw, Wellsboro, received honors for perfect attendance throughout the 12-month program.
Certificates in practical nursing were presented by Natalie O. DeLeonardis, coordinator of North Campus Outreach practical nursing. George Ann Foreman, instructional specialist, and Debra A. Day, nursing noncredit instructor/trainer, presented the pins.

Graduates of the noncredit program completed 1,504 hours of classroom and clinical instruction with clinical experiences obtained at Laurel Health System facilities. They are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for licensure as licensed practical nurses.
Graduates of the Practical Nursing Program are eligible for employment in hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, hospice and other health-care organizations. Practical nursing classes at the North Campus begin the first week of January each year.
The program is fully approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission.
