James C. Gorham, of Mill Hall, has been chosen by Pennsylvania College of Technology's Student Government Association's as the first Student of the Month of the Fall 2009 semester.
Gorham, a senior in the college's four-year plastics and polymer engineering technology major, is the vice president of the Society of Plastics Engineers.
"James is a hard worker who really enjoys his major," his nominator wrote. "He even goes to the extent of working for the Plastics Manufacturing Center in his "˜spare time' to improve the plastics program at the college."
Gorham is an avid hunter, fisher, skier and golfer; serves on the board of The Common Place, a Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Lock Haven; and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society for two-year students. (He earned his associate degree in plastics and polymer technology in 2007.)
In addition to the honor, Gorham's recognition willinclude a six-day pass to the Fitness Center, a "wooden nickel" good for a large cheese pizza and soda at Penn Central, and a Penn College Pride sweatshirt.
The Student of the Month is selected seven times each academic year based on commitment, service, role-model behavior, academics, leadership and campus involvement. Nominations from faculty/staff and other students are strongly encouraged.
