'Cat Tales Cross-CountryCompeting at the Delaware Valley Invitational against NCAA colleges and universities, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women finished seventh in a 15-team field and the men ninth in a 17-team field. Tamara Pavlov (Lewisburg) paced the Wildcat women over a 6-kilometer course with a 26th-place finish in 26 minutes, 59 seconds. Mark Cordeiro (Canton) topped the Penn College men over 8 kilometers with an 18th-place finish in 28:43.

GolfAlthough the finish was close, it was just the kind of start Matt Haile was looking for in his collegiate coaching debut.

"Although it was a tight match, I was very pleased with our bottom half of the lineup stepping up and coming through. Several guys were disappointed with their play, but it was key that the rest of our lineup came out and played solid golf. Freshmen Kevin Durkin (Havertown) and Steve Beach (Roaring Springs) each made outstanding performances for their very first college match," Haile said.

With Eric Schall (Jersey Shore) leading the way with a 76, the Wildcats edged Penn State Mont Alto, 315-316. Right behind Schall for Penn College were Kurt Linhard (Zionsville) with a 77, Craig Flint (Port Allegany) 81, Durnin with an 81 and Beach with an 82.

"I'm happy with how the team played and it's also an added bonus to start my first season as head coach with a win," Haile added.

Men's Soccer The Wildcats got off to a good start against NCAA Division III crosstown rival Lycoming College when Clayton Bretz (New Bloomfield) scored on a deflection at the 20:53-minute mark. But Lycoming rallied with two first-half goals and added three more in the second half for a 5-1 win. Lycoming outshot Penn College, 26-16.

At Penn State Brandywine on Thursday, Coleby Frye (York) had a goal and an assist to spark Penn College to a 3-0 victory. The Wildcats took 16 shots on goal while limiting Penn State Brandywine to four.

Closing out the week on Saturday, Jevin Martin (Northumberland) scored two goals as the Wildcats blanked Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 7-0. Penn College took 35 shots on goal and limited Penn State Wilkes-Barre to one. Penn College had 11 corner kicks and Wilkes-Barre zero.

Women's SoccerDespite fielding just enough players to cover all positions in their season opener, the Wildcats posted a 4-0 win at Davis College. Katie Moltz (Pottstown) tallied two goals. Penn College took 29 shots on goal and held Davis to eight.

Coed TennisPenn College opened its season with a 7-2 win over Penn State Brandywine. Shane Burridge (Ephrata) and Alex Clemmens (Lebanon) won both their singles and doubles matches on the men's side, as did Rachel Emmons (Washington, N.J.) and Danielle Trout (Harrisburg) on the women's side.

Women's Volleyball Penn College got its first win of the season at Valley Forge Christian College, taking three games, but then fell to Delaware Valley, also in three games.
