North Campus Practical Nursing Program Receives Accreditation
Monday, August 17, 2009
The practical nursing program at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus has been approved for initial accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
Accreditation provides recognition that a program has been evaluated by a qualified, independent group of competent peers who have found it to meet appropriate higher-education criteria in a satisfactory manner.
To be granted accreditation status, the North Campus Outreach practical nursing program met specific educational requirements, including a self-study by a team of NLNAC evaluators. The accreditation is for five years, at which time the program will be re-evaluated for continuing accreditation status. The NLNAC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the national accrediting body for all types of nursing-education programs. Its mission is to support nursing education, nursing practice and the public through accreditation.
The practical nursing program at the North Campus is fully approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN (National Council Licensure Examination-Practical Nurse) for licensure as an LPN and are prepared to enter the field of nursing in a variety of health-care settings such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, home-health agencies, clinics and other health-related facilities. The yearlong program begins each January.
