For those interested in beginning a career in the exciting field of health care, the next medical assistant class at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro will begin in October.
The daytime program designed specifically for the North Campus by Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College consists of 800 hours of classroom instruction and 160 hours in a medical-office setting. The class begins on Oct. 5 and ends on June 25.
Graduates are eligible to take the registered medical assistant (RMA) certification exam offered by the American Medical Technologists and the certified phlebotomy technician (CPT) exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association.
The medical assistant program prepares participants to perform general administrative, receptionist and basic clinical procedures in doctor's offices, clinics, medical facilities and human-service agencies. Due to technological advances in medicine and a growing and aging population, medical assisting is one of the fastest-growing occupations in the United States.
Applicants for the program must have a high school diploma or GED, a recent Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check and a medical examination including specific immunizations.
