A graduation ceremony was held recently for students completing the medical (office) assistant program offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Thirteen students completed the program, a nine-month clock-hour training that prepares participants for employment in medical offices and clinics.
The medical assistant students completed 800 hours of classroom instruction followed by a 160-hour externship in physicians' offices, hospitals and, for the first time, a coroner's office.
The students will sit for the American Medical Technologists exam for certification as a registered medical assistant (RMA).
The graduates are: Carol Copenhaver, Avis; Rebekah Miller, Hughesville; Terry Tibbens, Jersey Shore; Jill Hower and April Johnson, Montoursville; Elizabeth Warren, Pennsdale; Jennifer Brown, Roaring Branch; and Delena Breen, Chasnie Brooks, Debra Ferguson, Jennifer Kerwell, Christine Shifflet and Kristi Wright, Williamsport.
The next scheduled medical assistant class will begin in September.
