Penn College Students Awarded Construction-Industry Scholarships

Three students in Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Natural Resources Management two in heavy construction equipment technology and one in diesel technology each were awarded $1,000 scholarships in the latest workforce-development initiative of ConstructMyFuture.com.

Designed to encourage teenagers to pursue construction-industry careers, the Web site provides students, teachers, counselors and parents with information about benefits of construction careers, as well as access to educational options and local industry resources.

The program is an effort of the Associated Equipment Distributors Foundation, the Association of Equipment Manufacturers and the Associated General Contractors of America. (Excerpts from the students' winning scholarship essays are available online .)

With additional support from AEM member Kobelco Cranes North America in Houston, ConstructMyFuture.com boosted its awards from three to 10, including the Penn College students John P. McCormack, Maynard, Mass., enrolled in heavy construction equipment technology: operator emphasis; Matthew R. Rockhill, Thomaston, Conn., an incoming freshman in heavy construction equipment technology: Caterpillar equipment emphasis; and Steven J. Skoloda, Hamburg, starting his first year in the diesel technology major.
