Abdul B. Pathan, professor of economics at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently presented a paper to fellow college and university economics professors on using current economic events in the classroom.
Pathan's paper, titled "Effective Teaching of Multiplier Process by Using Current Economic Events," explains the current housing, financial and economic crisis and how best to explain it to Principles of Economics students so they have a better understanding of the situation and a lasting impression about the problems. He also compared the current events with the situation during the Great Depression of the 1930s.
Pathan presented the paper at "Teaching Economics: Instruction and Classroom Based Research," an annual conference held at Robert Morris University Feb. 19-21.
The conference, hosted by Robert Morris University and McGraw Hill/Irwin Publishing Co., is designed to address the interests of teachers of college-level economics and attracts participants from across the United States and Canada.
Pathan holds a doctorate from the University of Houston and master's degrees from Williams College in Massachusetts and Dhaka University in Bangladesh. He has taught at Penn College since 1987.
