Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Collin A. ZimmermanCollin A. Zimmerman, a junior in the information technology: web and applications development concentration, recently was named to serve as the 2009-10 regional director of the Central Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls.

Zimmerman, of Lancaster, was elected to the position this past weekend during a regional business meeting at Lock Haven University. His term of office will begin at the group's national conference, to be held at the University of Arizona from May 22-24.

CAACURH is a student-run organization that networks resident students from different campuses so they can better promote programming and services to their fellow residence-hall students. The CAACURH region encompasses all colleges and universities in Delaware; Maryland; New Jersey; Ohio; Pennsylvania; West Virginia; and Washington, D.C.

As regional director, Zimmerman will oversee all regional CAACURH activity and be the region's connection to the national organization. Part of that role is to chair the regional CAACURH Board of Directors and to conduct other business meetings that occur throughout the year. The region hosts two conferences annually and Zimmerman will be the point person for the students that plan those events.

Active from the time he arrived at Penn College, Zimmerman served as webmaster for the Residence Hall Association in his freshman year and RHA president for half of his sophomore year before moving on to offices at the regional level. Currently, he serves on the board of directors in the position of resource communications coordinator.

Zimmerman said he has enjoyed his regional involvement and finds the "invigorating" energy that everyone exhibits at conferences. Zimmerman has a passion for residence life and student affairs and plans to pursue the field of student affairs after his graduation next year.
