Weatherization Training Center Offers Its First BPI Event
Friday, January 16, 2009
The Weatherization Training Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology held its first Building Performance Institute training and certification event during the week of Jan. 12.
Weatherization staff representing the Central Community Action Program, SEDA-COG, STEP Inc. and the Westmoreland County Weatherization Program participated in the four-day event. BPI staff from Malta, N.Y., provided supervision and technical support to WTC. Robert Kahabka, of Northern Comfort Diagnostic Inc., assisted with curriculum development and served as lead presenter.
Having met BPI criteria as proctors for the written-exam field evaluations, WTC staff are officially qualified to provide training and certification for the building analyst 1, certified shell specialist and certified heating specialist designations.
As a BPI affiliate, WTC is aligned with a nationally recognized credentialing process and provides an enhanced career path for Pennsylvania Weatherization Assistance Program field staff and private-sector building-performance contractors.
WTC expects to incorporate several BPI training and certification opportunities into its schedule of training activities.
