The Weatherization Training Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology announces its affiliation with the Building Performance Institute.
As a BPI affiliate, WTC will be aligned with a nationally recognized credentialing process and provide an enhanced career path for Pennsylvania Weatherization Assistance Program field staff and private-sector building-performance contractors.
Degree-seeking students in the construction design programs at Penn College may also benefit by pursuing BPI certifications offered through WTC.
BPI training administered by a network of affiliates teaches the fundamentals of home-performance evaluation and whole-house retrofit planning and execution with a focus on the house-as-a-system concept, including mechanical equipment and the building envelope.
BPI certifications in building analyst, envelope specialist and heating professional designations will add value to the WTC competency-based courses already in place. WTC courses such as Diagnostic Approaches to Weatherization, Combustion Analysis of Oil and Gas Heating Systems, and Home Energy Auditing will provide a foundation for participants to be successful in earning various BPI credentials. BPI aligns its standards, knowledge base and test questions with the training provided by affiliates who deliver the training and oversee the written and field examinations.
WTC expects to incorporate several BPI training and certification opportunities into its schedule of training activities. For more information about BPI certifications, visit online or contact Bill Van der Meer by e-mail or at (570) 327-4768.
