The Green Tip of the Week, from Penn College's Energy Conservation Subcommittee via Earth 911.com, invites the college community to "Ring in the New Year" by "upcycling" any cellphones that may have been replaced/upgraded. Help keep the arsenic, lead and zinc out of landfills. The U.S. Postal Service has a To Be Free and Green program in which old Blackberries, digital cameras, inkjet cartridges, iPods, MP3 players and PDAs can be sent to the Clover Tech Group. Free mailers are available at the post office and there will be zero waste in the landfill after the products have been disassembled and reused. (Contacts for this feature are Gail B. Landers, group leader at the Children's Learning Center and a subcommittee member, and Carl J. Bower Jr., horticulture instructor.)
