Penn College Librarians, Staff Among Workshop Participants
Monday, December 15, 2008
Eight representatives of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library attended and/or participated in the Susquehanna Library Cooperative's recent "Web 2.0 Untangled Workshop" at Lycoming College.
Tracey Amey, librarian for digital initiatives; Jeffrey A. Bower, virtual resources developer; Matthew David, assistant director, library services (and chair of the SLC, a regional consortium of academic, public and special libraries); Georgia R. Laudenslager, librarian, reference and outreach; Joshua D. Young, virtual resource manager; and part-time librarians Susan M. Robishaw, Helen L. Yoas and Judith A. Zebrowski all were on hand for the Oct. 31 workshop.
Amey presented a poster session on the Madigan Library podcast tour; the podcast can be used to take a self-guided tour through the library.
Laudenslager presented a poster session on the reference desk wiki; the wiki (a guide and training tool for the college's librarians) is located on the library portal and "includes library services, policies and procedures, as well as information about the physical space and various departments."
Bower and David participated in the Web 2.0 panel and spoke about reverse engineering, a process by which existing Web constructs can be taken apart and reassembled to achieve a similar effect. The example they used was the reconstruction of a script to display library holdings on Amazon.com records. More about the program is available online .
