Students Perform College Photography, Video Assignments

Three students employed this fall by College Information and Community Relations are using their photographic and video talents to help the office publicize Pennsylvania College of Technology people, programs, events and activities.

The students are: Timothy R. Cotter, a technology management major from St. Marys, casual part-time student video production assistant; Kenneth L. Barto, an information technology: security specialist concentration major from Vernon, Conn., casual part-time student photographer; and Jessica L. Tobias, a graphic design major from Cogan Station, casual part-time student photographer.

Cotter is a former CI/CR intern who received a degree in mass media communications in May. He helps the video-production team produce video profiles and assists with the "degrees that work." marketing series on public television.

Cotter also serves as operations manager for the college radio station, WPTC 88.1 FM, for which he hosts "Time Capsule Radio," a weekly program featuring classic rock and oldies music. The show airs from 6-8 p.m. Mondays. He also works for Salter Communications, a video and radio communications company in St. Marys. He is an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.

Barto and Tobias can be found around campus photographing people and events for PCToday, college press releases, One College Avenue magazine (print and online) and various marketing materials. They also work in CI/CR's new photo studio in the Madigan Library and help staff maintain the college's growing digital-photo database.

In addition to working at the college, Barto takes photographs for PinstripesPlus.com, a part of Scout.com, owned by Fox Sports. He photographs high school football games for Eastern PA Football , and he has photographed Williamsport Crosscutters and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees baseball games.

He is credentialed for sports photography at two Connecticut ballparks where the New Britain Rock Cats (AA affiliate for the Minnesota Twins) and the Connecticut Defenders (AA affiliate for the San Francisco Giants) play. He is certified as a baseball umpire in Connecticut.

Tobias, who has worked as a student photographer since October 2007, previously worked for nearly four years as a sports journalist/photographer for the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. She is president of the Penn College Motorsports Association, secretary and Central Section leader for the Pennsylvania Chic Riders Motorcycle Association, and a swimming instructor at the River Valley Regional YMCA.

A self-taught photographer, she has focused primarily on sports, automotive and motorsports photography. She has also done professional photography for automotive performance-tuning shops in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
