James E. Allshouse, who plans to graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in welding and fabrication engineering technology, has been chosen as October's Student of the Month by the Student Government Association at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Characterized as "dedicated, a leader, responsible and an incredible friend," Allshouse is a member of the American Welding Society, serves as a specialist in the Army both overseas and in Pennsylvania during natural disasters is affiliated with SGA and hosts "The Other Side" from 10 p.m. to midnight Thursdays on WPTC (the campus radio station at 88.1 FM).
"Jim Allshouse is a silent leader," his nominator wrote. "Everyone sees Jim as the guy who is always at events with a joke or funny story to hand out. But some people don't know how active Jim really is in the Penn College community. This year alone, (he) will serve on a handful of ad hoc and standing committees and volunteer loads of his time" to SGA, AWS and the radio station.
The "Student of the Month" is selected based on commitment, service, role-model behavior, academics, leadership and campus involvement. Nominations from faculty/staff and other students are strongly encouraged.
