Library Audience Hears History of 'Stars and Stripes'

Szuhaj displays flag for attendees Patriotism and reverence Wednesday's program coincided with the 42nd anniversary of the death of Dennis K. Eaker, the first local casualty of the Vietnam War, honored with this plaque beneath one of the flags In honor of Constitution Day, the Madigan Library sponsored The Hall of Flags, an educational display of "Old Glory" from early America to the present. The historical exhibit was presented by members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 1057, Jersey Shore: Craig R. Packard, the Elks' district deputy grand exalted ruler, who provided the history lesson, and Theodore J. Szuhaj, past exalted ruler of the Elks lodge, who displayed each flag as Packard explained its significance.
