'Cat Tales Golf Penn College opened its 2008 golf season with a win and extended its streak of victories to 151. The eight-stroke margin of victory was the closest a team has come to beating Penn College in years, according to coach Chet Schuman. As a team, the Wildcats shot a 326. Penn State New Kensington followed with a 334.

The medalist for the invitational was Matt Miller for PSU-New Kensington, with a round of 76. Penn College's senior Doug Wagner of Huntington Mills was right behind with a 77.Other Penn College players and their scores: Kyle Shoultes of Perkasie, 82; T.C. Reynolds of Muncy, 83; Eric Schall of Jersey Shore, 84, Len Nicholas of Abington, 85, and Craig Flint of Port Allegany, 91.

Cross-Country Competing against NCAA Division II and III schools, the Wildcat men placed fourth among five teams. Mark Cordeiro (sophomore/Canton) led Penn College runners with a time of 28:30 and finished 18th overall. Steve Hoffman (freshman/Ocean City, Md.) was second for Penn College, and 24th overall, in 29:20. For the Penn College women, Tamara Pavlov (sophomore/Lewisburg) placed 18th with a time of 27:34.

Men's Soccer Steven Lis (senior/Elliottsburg) scored in the 52nd minute to lift the Penn College men to their 18th straight win over two seasons. "It wasn't pretty, but we won," Wildcats coach Enrique Castillo remarked afterward. Penn College's defense limitedPenn StateAbington to three shots on goal in recording the team's second shutout of the year.

Women's Soccer Hannah McCracken (junior/Williamsport) and Kim Daley (freshman/Springfield) each scored as the Lady Wildcats opened their season a day late with a road win. Both the men's and women's matches originally scheduled for Saturday were pushed back one day because of tropical storm Hanna.

Women's Volleyball The Penn College Lady Wildcats were tentative in their season opener as they lost to Penn State Harrisburg in three sets.Even the youngest of fans could see that the team improved with each set, but inexperience took its toll in the end.Junior Alyssa Covas (Pottsville) led the team with three kills on 14 hits and had the team's only block of the evening.Freshman Lyndsey Smith (Mechanicsburg) set eight assists and served a perfect 10-for-10 with one of the team's two ace serves.

Penn College evened its record at 1-1 with a three-set win over Harrisburg Area Community College. All members of the Penn College nine-player roster saw playing time as they were led by junior Courtney Barton who had a 20-for-20 service record with three aces and hustled for 15 digs. Several players also showed a strong attack as freshman Kristin Bernard, sophomore Karlee Shubert and Covas had four kills each.All setting assists were provided by Smith, who had 14 for the day.
