The Service and Operation of Heavy Equipment Association will hold a precision Heavy Construction Equipment Rodeo during Penn College's Fall 2008 Open House from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Schneebeli Earth Science Center. Second-year students from the heavy construction equipment technology major (both operator and technician emphases) will compete against secondary heavy equipment students from schools in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Approximately 125 competitors are expected, vying for first-, second- and third-place trophies,as well asteam honors. The students will use skills they have learned in their curricula to compete in several events operating various pieces of heavy equipment, such as a backhoe, excavator, wheel loader and skid steer donated by various equipment dealers. (Volvo, Caterpillar, John Deere, Case and Bobcat equipment will be on site.) The S&O group has hosted the rodeo since 1983, usually during Spring Open House. Open to the public at the Earth Science Center located along Route 15, about 10 miles south of the college's main campus this marks the first timethe exciting eventwill be held during fall.
